The month of October is a special time to celebrate, honor and uplift the voices of girls everywhere. This year, Wezesha Girls Network in partnership with AHF Uganda Cares and other organizations joined the global community in commemorating the International Day of the Girl Child 2025 at St. Martin Mulago Primary School under the inspiring call to action “Empowering Girls to be at the Forefront.”. The event was filled with motivation, storytelling, mentorship and shared experiences. It created a safe and inspiring space where young girls could express themselves freely, connect with mentors and draw encouragement from the stories of resilience shared by women who have walked similar paths. Every story shared was a reminder that the challenges of life are not permanent and that within every girl lies potential waiting to be nurtured. As Hope Nankunda co-founder of the Wezesha Girls Network Uganda beautifully put it, “Every voice leaves a mark, every story lights a spark.” These messages of hope and perseverance left a deep impression on the girls reminding them that their dreams are valid and achievable. Hope continues to say “we are happy to work in partnership with different stakeholders to reach out to more girls and make a difference, when we collaborate, we multiply impact and create lasting change.”
The commemoration was not just a celebration, it was a movement of empowerment. Mentors from different organizations shared powerful words of wisdom, encouraging the girls to stay focused, believe in themselves and take bold steps towards their dreams. This event served as a continuation of our commitment to ensuring that empowerment does not end with one event. It was a joyful, hope-filled moment where girls were reminded that they are not alone in their journey. Through partnership and mentorship, they are being equipped to lead confidently, make informed choices and shape a brighter future.

This event was a powerful reminder to the strength of partnerships. When organizations come together with a shared purpose, transformation becomes inevitable. Together, we are shaping a generation of confident, informed and empowered girls who will stand tall and drive change in their communities. As Wezesha Girls Network continues to champion girls’ rights and empowerment, the message remains clear- that to Unite for Girls is the best we can do at such a time as this. It is a call to parents, educators, policymakers and communities to invest in girls, listen to their voices and support their aspirations.
Every girl deserves the opportunity to rise beyond limitations, to lead with confidence and to shine brightly in her chosen path. Wezesha Girls Network remains steadfast in its mission to empower girls to dream boldly, act bravely and build a future where equality and opportunity are not just ideals but realities. Because when we empower one girl, we empower generations. When we believe in her, we unlock the future
