On 13 August 2026, Wezesha Girls began a new and exciting journey with member organisations working with a group of passionate adolescents and young people committed to advancing girls’ rights through Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) advocacy and storytelling.

This project is designed to create meaningful opportunities for adolescents and young people to build their knowledge, raise their voices and use the power of storytelling to advocate for issues that directly affect their lives, health and futures with help from Girl Rising and She’s the first. We believe that young people are not simply beneficiaries of change they are powerful agents of change. When adolescents and young people have access to accurate information, the confidence to speak up and safe spaces where their voices are respected, they can influence conversations, challenge harmful norms and contribute to positive change in their communities.

Wezesha will support young people to explore and speak about issues surrounding sexual and reproductive health and rights, including access to accurate information and services, stigma, harmful social norms and the barriers that prevent girls and young people from fully enjoying their rights. Stories have the power to make complex issues understandable, challenge stereotypes and help communities see the real experiences behind statistics and policies. By supporting young people to tell their own stories, We aim to create spaces where lived experiences can inform advocacy and inspire action.

The project will provide member organizations working directly with adolescents and young people with opportunities to strengthen their understanding of SRHR while developing the skills and confidence needed to participate in advocacy. Wezesha Girls envisions young participants becoming informed and courageous advocates who can engage their peers, communities and decision-makers on issues that matter to them.

We also recognize the importance of creating safe, inclusive and supportive spaces where young people can express themselves without fear of judgement or stigma. Every young person deserves to have their experiences respected and their voice heard. Despite progress in SRHR awareness, many adolescents and young people continue to face misinformation, stigma and barriers when seeking information and services. These challenges can have a significant impact on their wellbeing, choices and opportunities.

Through advocacy and storytelling, Wezesha Girls seeks to contribute to conversations that challenge these barriers and promote a future where every girl and young person can access the information, support and services they need to make informed decisions about their lives and health. This journey is not only about telling stories, it is about turning stories into advocacy, advocacy into action and action into change.

We are excited to learn, listen and grow alongside the adolescents and young people taking part in the project. Their ideas, experiences and perspectives will help shape the journey ahead. We also believe that meaningful change happens when young people are given the opportunity to lead conversations about their own lives and futures. We look forward to walking this journey together and amplifying young voices for stronger SRHR advocacy, greater access to accurate information and services, and a future where every girl can claim and enjoy her rights.
