In a world where changemakers tirelessly fight for others, self-care often takes a back seat. Recognizing this, Wezesha Girls Network Uganda, in partnership with Brave Movement Uganda, organized a transformative Wellness Retreat designed for advocates, mentors, and team members who pour their hearts into protecting children against all forms of violence sometimes at the expense of their own well-being.
The work of advocacy is rewarding but can also be emotionally and physically draining. Many caregivers and activists neglect their own needs while focusing on uplifting others. This retreat was a reminder: “You cannot pour from an empty cup.”
Under the theme “Pause, Reflect, Restore,” the retreat provided a safe space for participants to:
Recharge – Through mindfulness exercises, yoga, and games.
Reflect – Sharing personal journeys and challenges in a supportive circle.
Reconnect– Creative activities like journaling and art therapy to reignite passion.
Restore – Learning sustainable self-care practices to avoid burnout.
This retreat was a reminder that our well-being matters too because when we are strong, our impact grows even stronger.
Take Home.
✔ Rest is not laziness; it’s necessary fuel.
✔ You don’t have to carry the weight alone.
✔ Celebrate small wins and forgive setbacks.
This retreat is the beginning of a long-term wellness initiative for caregivers and advocates. More workshops, mental health check-ins, and retreats are planned to ensure that those who give so much to others also receive the care they deserve.
