As the world prepared to celebrate International Women’s Day, we brought together member Organizations for a pre–International Women’s Day engagement at Princess Diana High School Munyonyo under the inspiring theme “Give to Gain – She Rises When We Give.”  With the leadership of Youth Chaperon Uganda, the session brought together mentors, partners, teachers and students in a meaningful conversation about the importance of supporting and uplifting girls so they can achieve their full potential. The activity created a safe and interactive space where young girls openly engaged with mentors, asked questions and learnt from the experiences of leaders and advocates who are committed to advancing girls’ empowerment.

With Mentor Simon Peter Kigozi of Youth Capacity Building Network who guided Sstudents in discussions on why it is important to celebrate women’s day and skills such as self-confidence, education, leadership and resilience. Mentor Monica of Youth Chaperon Uganda emphasized that every girl has the ability to succeed if she believes in herself and remains committed to her goals.

Our Coordinator Ms Ainomugisha Mercy encouraged the girls to stay focused on their studies and reminded them that education remains one of the most powerful tools for transforming their lives and their communities. Ms Angel Mara of Transcend Africa Foundation also shared practical advice on how young girls can overcome challenges, build confidence and develop leadership skills both in school and in society.

For many students, the session was not just a learning opportunity but also a moment of inspiration. Through the stories shared by mentors and partners, the girls were reminded that their voices matter and that they have the potential to become future leaders, innovators and change-makers in their communities.

In line with the theme “Give to Gain – She Rises When We Give,” our Co-founder who doubles as the ED Raising Teenagers Uganda donated 50 reusable sanitary pads with the purpose of enabling girls to attend school daily without being limited by periods. Access to menstrual hygiene products plays an important role in enabling girls to attend school regularly, participate confidently in class and maintain their dignity during their menstrual cycles.

This event at Princess Diana High School reflects the broader mission of Wezesha Girls Network Uganda, which focuses on empowering girls and young women through mentorship, education support, leadership development and advocacy. Events like these are important because they connect young girls with mentors who can guide them, encourage them and help them see the possibilities ahead of them. When communities invest in girls, they invest in stronger families, better education outcomes and more resilient societies.

As the world commemorates International Women’s Day, the message from this engagement is clear: when girls are supported, they rise and when they rise, communities grow stronger. Through partnerships, mentorship and practical support, Wezesha Girls Network Uganda continues to play an important role in empowering girls to believe in themselves, pursue their dreams and become positive contributors to their communities. Together with partners and supporters, we remain committed to creating opportunities for girls to rise, lead and thrive.
